active familyAs you grow older, it takes extra effort to stay fit and healthy. The biological changes that happen in your body are inevitable and you need to pay more attention towards your health and fitness. Health at every age plays an important role in shaping up your life. There are many things that a sensible person can do to stay trim, flexible and within a healthy weight limit. Your health at any point of your life is a combined result of your routine and habits until then. It is therefore very important to follow a healthy lifestyle from very young age.

Here are some tips for total body fitness at any age:

Stretching

This is one type of physical activity that people of any age can do. Stretching can help you improve your flexibility and move more freely. You can do stretching exercises for hands, legs, back and neck. You can do more demanding stretching exercises when your muscles have warmed up.  Amazingly, scientific studies show that if you participate in stretching on a regular basis, your life expectancy increases as well.

Balancing

This is another great way to stay fit. Every now and then, do things that help your balance. Walking heel-to-toe is one good way to maintain your balance. When you walk this way, make sure your toes of the foot in back touch the heel in front.  These type of activities help to improve brain function in the centers that are responsible for balance.

Activities that make you breathe harder

The kinds of activities that make you breathe harder totally differ from one age group to another. If you are a young person, jogging or running could make you breather harder and if you are an aged person, walking for 20-30 minutes is more than enough. You can perform these activities with a gap of short intervals too. Studies have proven that regular exercise can delay or avoid heart diseases and diabetes.  If you perform short bursts of intense exercise for three to 5 minutes, this can prove more beneficial than jogging slowly for thirty to 45 minutes.  The deeper, harder breathing actually serves to expand your lungs and keep them from shrinking as part of the aging process.

Importance of staying fit

  • Many of the serious health problems are a result of an unhealthy lifestyle related to eating too much, drinking too much, or smoking too much. The harm that these habits can do is not directly related to your age, so you need to concentrate on your health and fitness levels at every age. Doing regular exercises will keep you active and give a long and healthy life.  Eating healthy and keeping your body fat level in a desirable range will help decrease the risks of heart disease, diabetes, and strokes for example.
  • To stay fit, one does not have to hit a gym regularly. There are many easy and simple exercises that you can do at home regularly. Most of them do not consume much time and play an important role in maintaining your fitness levels.
  • If you remain physically inactive for a prolonged period of time, the metabolic rate of your body slows down which further leads to obesity and other related health problems.
  • Also, nutritional diet plays an important role in improving your overall health and fitness levels. You must be careful about what you eat. Most people only care about the quantity they eat. However, it is just as important if not more important to keep a check on what you are eating as well.

It’s possible that you have time constraints to go to a gym or exercise on a regular basis. However, with little changes in your daily lifestyle, you are sure to see considerable difference in your overall health condition and fitness levels, so it’s worth it to make appointments on your schedule for you to get the exercise that you know you need.  No matter what your age, be conscious about your health and commit to staying fit.
